COPPER & WOOD MAILBOX

Trying to find a way to make a more reasonably priced mailbox, I started using cedar
because it lasts well outdoors. I've done some carpentry, and combining wood with copper for new designs is enjoyable. It doubles the possibilities.

CEDAR MAILBOX WITH COPPER ROOF

A Secret Copper Shop Original
Custom-Designed Copperwork

Mailbox doors can be difficult, since they will be operated daily for years, must be convienient for the mailman, and must be original in their own way. Mailboxes are relatively expensive because they usually take at least a full day, and often more than a half sheet of copper, currently at $100 per sheet. They will last indefinitly, and that is one of the things that is most important to me. This cedar mailbox has a copper roof, and these two materials are very long lasting. The copper roof will keep the wood dry, and everyone knows that a good roof will keep a building standing for a long time.

All cedar joints are glued and nailed, using copper nails. This simple door design is easy to open and self closing. I'm open to attempt any design for doors, as that adds to the classic beauty. All boxes can be made to accomodate any mounting method. There will be no rust on my mailboxes.
